A HIGHLY PRODUCTIVE AND AFFLUENT 2-DAY RETREAT SESSION HOSTED BY THE NORTHERN CAPE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH.
In our continued efforts to strengthen the delivery of health care services in the Province, the Northern Cape Department of Health this past week, held its successful two (2) day Retreat session in Kimberley, Sol Plaatje local municipality. This invigorating session was a turning point for the department to PAUSE, REFLECT and RESET in order to move forward in improving the health outcomes and accomplish good audit outcomes. This session assisted the department to review its performance over the last five years, to ensure stability in the finances of the department, improve the delivery of quality healthcare services, reduce burden of diseases, reduce patient waiting times, increase the number of clinical and non-clinical staff, invest in health infrastructure and governance. The Health MEC, Mr Maruping Lekwene expressed his heartfelt thanks to all key health stakeholders, for their support and participation during the 2-day retreat session. These among others, includes; - National Department of Health, Office of the Premier, DPME, SALGA, Provincial Treasury, Auditor General (AG), and Office of Health Standards Compliance.
Our key stakeholders lauded the department for the improvement in performance on some of the key areas demonstrated by the indicators and figures during the provincial health retreat session. This milestone puts the department in a much more better chance to achieve better audit outcomes.
In-spite of the factuality that this retreat comes during a period when the economy is on a downward spiral, the monetary constraints in the budget baseline, and the rising cost of managing medico legal claims; the Department remain steadfast to ensuring improved health care services to communities in the Province.
This will be achieved through strengthening of the financial oversight function within the governance structures focusing on maintaining the health establishment's financial health. This includes budgeting, resource allocation, and exploring sustainable funding options to support long-term service delivery.
Furthermore, ensuring that performance management and development system that aligns with the size and type of the health establishment. This system promotes continuous staff development, improve service delivery, and support organizational goals.
The Department remains committed to the mandate of providing quality health care services to all.
