Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe hospital (RMSH)– Ophthalmology Centre is the only tertiary level eye care centre in the Northern Cape Province. It serves as the main referral hub for all of the Northern Cape Province’s Eye patients.
An SD-OCT is required in the Eye clinic to help diagnose and guide treatment of patients with diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions and glaucoma, although it is useful in a multitude of other conditions. It allows the Ophthalmologist to make the diagnosis earlier and implement treatment earlier, thereby often avoiding blinding complications.
Assistive devices improves the client’s psychological and physical well-being. They can also help alleviate fatigue and prevent social isolation and lower the risk of depression.
