The Northern Cape Health MEC, Mr Maruping Lekwene together with acting HOD, Mr Riaan Strydom and senior management in the Department welcomed the National Health DG, Dr Sandile Buthelezi alongside his Special Advisor, Dr Sibongile Zungu, on their one-day support visit to the Province.
Upon arrival, the delegation received an in-depth briefing on significant strides made by the provincial department of health towards modernising our public health system and delivering quality care to our people.
The briefing also covered budget allocation for the department of health, capacity in terms of staffing and logistical resources, as well as intervention measures in place to match our ever-increasing demand of health services to communities.
The visiting delegation was impressed with the work done by the provincial department, despite the current financial pressures. They committed to a follow-up meeting in due course, as part of finalising action plans emanating from today’s discussion.
The delegation concluded their day with a walk about at Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe hospital, to monitor the delivery of health care services.
