The Provincial Health MEC, Mr Maruping Lekwene accompanied by Mayor of Tsantsabane Municipality, Cllr Helena English conducted an oversight visit to engage with the management of Postmasburg Hospital in the Tsantsabane local Municipality. This visit forms part of MEC Lekwene’s programme to monitor service delivery in terms of cleanliness, staffing, medication stock levels, availability of medical equipment and physical state of facilities. With regards to staffing, the hospital currently operate with a nursing staff complement of 29. Last week, the department processed appointment of 3 additional nurses to beef-up the current capacity.
In terms of infrastructure, the theatre is currently undergoing renovation to the value of R13.5 million (Kolomela Mine) and equipment worth R 2.7 million was sponsored by SIOC-CDTThe leadership also received a report that Kolomela mine donated a mobile X-Ray machine and PAC (Picture Archiving and Communications) system to the facility, valued at R1.2 million.Adequate mattresses and blankets are available for usage. Blankets were donated by the local municipality and Kolomela mine.The Hospital has a bulk oxygen supply tank installed and will be connected directly to the rest of the facility end of this current financial year.
The MEC alluded that significant strides has been made to improve health care services, including the newly refurbished maternity ward and reception area of Postmasburg hospital.Focus shall be placed on the emergency care unit to finalize much needed upgrades to fit the growing demand of the Tsantsabane local municipality. Subsequent to this fruitful engagement, MEC Lekwene and Mayor English dedicated time to visit Boichoko clinic as part of inspiring confidence and supporting the health care personnel.
