The Church of Jesus Christ of latter- day Saints, often informally known as the “LDS”. Church or Mormon Church, is a nontrinitarian Christian Church that considers itself to be the restoring of the original church founded by Jesus-Christ.
“LDS” is originating from Salt Lake City in the United States of America approached the Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital in Kimberley Northern Cape donating 350 wheelchairs, 400 commodes, 250 mobility aids, tools and wheelchair spare parts to the Northern Cape Department of Health. The handover ceremony that was held in Kimberley was graced by The MEC of the Department of Health, Mr Maruping Lekwene, acting HOD, Mr Riaan Strydom. The total cost of the entire donation is valued at R 2 315 387.00.
Mr Sandile Makasi from the Latter-Day Saints Church (LDS) showed great pleasure to be with Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital and shared this experience with the hospital and the entire department he also added that he is following the hospital’s activities on their social pages and is proud of what the department is doing for the public.
MEC Lekwene on behalf of the provincial government, expressed his sincere
appreciation for the good gesture and intervention displayed by the church
for families and individuals in need of assistive devices.
The assistive devices provide patients with improved independence and quality
of life as they are more mobile to participate in daily activities at home
and within the community. This also improves the patients psychological and
physical well-being. It can also help alleviate fatigue and prevent social
isolation and lower the risk of depression in the patient.
Mrs Kholeka Ntintelo who is a deputy director at the Non-Communicable Diseases at the Northern Cape Department of Health’s Provincial office was one of the directors that gave a presentation at the handover event, she said that the handover initiative forms part of a world-wide care system which involves availability of adequate facilities that have been mandated with the responsibility to meet the daily person’s health needs of our communities and that facilities that must be designed to conform within the set standards and norms of the country. Mrs Ntintelo concluded her presentations by adding that “as the northern cape (SA) we embrace the Human Rights Culture as outlined in the United Nations (UN) Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities as rectified in 2007.
